Mr. Smith was born December 31, 1929 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of the late, Clinton and Freida (Reed) Smith. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army where he served during the Korean conflict, was a retired engineer at Lockheed and was a member of First Baptist Church Cartersville where he was a greeter. “Pop” loved to drive his John Deer Tractor, talk to his Heavenly Father and pray for his family. II Corinthians 12:9.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Michael Ray Smith, three sisters, a brother and his son in law, Charlie Chambers.
Surviving is his wife, Nancy Smith of Cartersville, children Sandra Kay Chambers of Rydal, daughter in law, Gerri Smith of Lawrenceville, step-daughters Rebecca Cardell Straub and her husband, Jeff of Plymouth, Minnesota, Joy Cardell Carlisle and her husband Randy of Kennesaw, Jamie Cardell Azar and her husband, Sam of Cartersville, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, a sister, Lorraine Say of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and many more loved extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Dr. Jeff Straub officiating.
Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Georgia National Cemetery, in Canton, Georgia with Military Rites.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 4:00-8:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Randy Carlisle, Sam Azar, Joshua Straub, Jonathan Carlisle, Jay Stewart, Jimmy Carlisle, Cory Godfrey and John Hood.
