Duard W. Kerley was born in Costa Mesa, California on March 4, 1946, to Dewey S. and Evelyn W. Kerley where he joined his three older siblings, Wayne, Leon, and Joyce.
Duard graduated from Costa Mesa High School in 1964 and was attending Orange County Community College when he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He graduated from Lackland Air Force Base where he trained as military police. His first duty station was in Japan but he would fly into Vietnam to guard the supply planes, as they were unloaded. Duard was always proud of his country and was honored to be a military veteran.
In his early twenty’s, he moved to Lake Tahoe, California to live with his brother Leon where he worked as a security guard. He married Barbara Davis in 1968, and they had two daughters: Robyn Lynn and Tasha Ann. The family moved to Reno, Nevada in 1973 and Barbara and Duard were later divorced after 13 years of marriage.
Duard learned the painting trade from his former father-in-law, John Davis. He made his career being an incredibly talented construction painter, later retiring from the Engineering Department at the Atlantis Casino.
Duard met Susan Jane Collins in 1976 and they were later married in Virginia City, Nevada on April 12th, 1980. They had just celebrated their forty-fourth wedding anniversary just four days prior to Duard’s death.
Duard became a loving stepfather to Susan’s two older children Yvette Celeste, and Jason Lee and on September 03, 1980, he formerly adopted Susan’s youngest daughter, Erica Anne.
This large, blended family had many adventures boating, camping, and hunting. When they were not engaged in outdoor activities, they spent many hours around the dining room table playing card games or visiting their extended family in Lovelock and Winnemucca.
Duard was a member of Spirit Filled Church in Sparks where he ushered for many years. He brought the love of Jesus to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and his life demonstrated his faith and love in Jesus.
Duard is survived by his wife Susan, children Robyn (Dave) Gowan of Spring Creek, NV, Yvette (Dave) Holt of Reno, NV, Tasha (Kacey) Eaton of Reno, NV, Jason (Tara) Terry of Paradise Valley, NV, and Erica (Clayton) Sterling of Reno, NV. He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren: Amber Fields, Austin Parnell, Dallas Silva, Hunter Holt, Janessa Kerley, Evan Terry, James Terry, Logan Terry, Taylor Fast, Rylee Eaton and Cadence Sterling along with fourteen great grandchildren.
Duard was a wonderful husband, father, and Papa. He will be missed by all his family and friends. However, we know and that one day we will see him again, as he is now in the loving arms of Jesus.
Duard’s Celebration of Life will be held on May 25th, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Spirit Filled Church, 3175 Goldy Way, Sparks NV.
