David Higgins

Dave was born April 30, 1954, in Glasgow, Scotland to Andrew and Gertrude “Trudy” Higgins. He was the older brother of Brian Higgins. The Higgins family moved to the United States in 1969 to San Jose, CA.

Dave graduated from Piedmont Hills High School in 1972. This is also where he met the love of his life, Diane Diaz, in their senior year of high school, where he carried her books to class each day.

Dave and Diane were married in 1974 at Scott Creek, Mount Hamilton and together they had two wonderful children, David Ian, and Nicole Rae Higgins. They lived in the Santa Cruz Mountains, in Los Gatos, CA for over 20+ years before retiring and moving to Carson City, Nevada.

Dave had a successful 37 year career with Walters and Wolf, where he climbed the ladder from a carpenter to journeyman, to project manager, to a senior estimator. He retired early at 59 years old because he said he didn’t want to waste his whole life working and wanted to spend his time traveling and spending time with his family and friends.

Dave was adventurous, a thrill seeker and a big kid at heart. He enjoyed spending his time camping, kayaking, skiing, and being on the open road riding his motorcycle with Diane all over the country and making friends along the way. In Dave and Diane’s most recent trip, they traveled from California to Florida following the Blues trail, drinking beer and enjoying each other’s company as they always did. However, Dave was most proud of being a Dad and Granda. He had a special bond with all three of his grandchildren, who each would choose to play with him every time he walked into the room.

He was a kind man who always put his friends and family first. He had a heart that is unmatched, and he will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Dave is survived by his wife, Diane, his son, Ian, and daughter-in-law-to-be Tori Simcoe, his daughter Nicole, son-in-law Michael Entner, and his grandchildren, Ella, Ryla and Michael, and his brother, Brian, his sister-in-law Maite and his nieces, Stephanie, and Heather. As well as the McGowan family, the Diaz family, their high school friends, mountain friends, motorcycle friends and many more.

A Celebration of Life for Dave Higgins will be held Sunday, September 4 at 5:00 pm at his home in Carson City, Nevada.
