Carolyn Catherine DeLong, 99, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2022. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 28, 1923 to Fred and Mary Rice. At 14 years of age, she moved to Southern California and graduated from North Hollywood High School and started working at IBM right after graduation. At the end of 1942 a tall, skinny, lanky young man came into IBM to apply for a job. After giving him an application, Carolyn told a co-worker that was the man she was going to marry. Their first date was in January, they were engaged in March and Married in June of 1943. Carolyn and John were married for 71 years before his passing in 2014.
John and Carolyn moved to San Jose, CA in 1959. They were very active in St. Christophers Church and loved to play bridge with their friends. They loved to travel the world and completed 33 cruises. The minute they got home from one trip, Carolyn was planning the next.
In 2010, Carolyn and John moved to Sparks NV in an active/assisted living facility. Carolyn immediately joined the bridge group and the choir. She sang in the Cascades Choir until 2020 when the pandemic stopped the activities. Always smiling, throwing kisses, giving hugs, and so appreciative of everything she had, Carolyn made friends wherever she went.
Carolyn is survived by her children: Colleen DeLong, Roseburg, OR, John DeLong (Sharon Peters), Los Gatos, CA, Mary DeLong (Dennis Nelson) Roseburg, OR, Carole DeLong (Steve Deisenroth) Sparks, NV. She had 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grand children. She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Linda Cook and her beloved boyfriend and husband John DeLong.
Funeral Mass will be at St. Christophers Church, San Jose, CA on Tuesday December 6th at 10:30am.
