James Roy Patterson, age 80, passed away on December 4th, 2024. He was born on November 24, 1944 in New Madrid County, Missouri to Roy and Nannie Patterson. As a young boy, James moved to west Texas and was raised in Anton, TX and surrounding areas. He married Glenda Kaye Grady in 1967 and the couple had 2 daughters.
In his younger years, James was known as the local basketball star. He could be found most nights at the Farmers Branch Recreation Center where people referred to him as “Coach” or even “Old Man Larry Bird”. He was also known as an all-around handy-man who could fix or make anything you needed. He was a master woodworker and many of his pieces are still in our homes today.
James enjoyed nature and being outside, playing his guitar, working with leather, and cracking jokes, but his biggest pride and joy was his family. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his family.
He is preceded in death by his precious baby daughter, Lorrie Renee Patterson; mother and father, Roy and Nannie Patterson; siblings, Rebecca Campbell, Marvin Patterson, Paul Patterson, Myra Kent and nephew (more like a brother), Larry Campbell.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Glenda and their daughter Amy of Farmers Branch; Granddaughters Chelsey Hunt (Shayne), Paige Zerba (Craig) and Summer Payne (Ryan); great grandchildren Lily, Laynie and Luke Hunt; and siblings Shirley Ritchey and Joyce Wood as well as multiple family, friends and loved ones.
