Nécrologie de Charles L. Herron
Charles (Chuck) Lawrence Herron left this earth on March 1, 2022 to meet his maker. He was the only child of Lee B. and Margaret (nee Burney) Herron, both of whom preceded him in death. Born in Globe, Arizona on April 19, 1930, Chuck and his parents subsequently lived in Phoenix, AZ., Trinidad, Co., Colorado Springs, Co., Amarillo, TX. And St. Louis, Mo. There he attended Southwest High School, was elected class president and graduated in 1948. Chuck attended the Univ. of Cincinnati. He was president of the Engineering College Tribunal, a member of Triangle Fraternity and the Student Council. His senior year he was selected as The Outstanding Engineer, an honor he shared with one of his good friends. After graduation, he married Marcia Stanforth and later that year was called to duty in the U.S. Air Force, serving 2 years as a Flight Test Engineer. This first marriage brought him 4 children: Kathleen Sue Rose (Jeff), Barbara Lee Bowen (William), Daniel Charles Herron (Janet) and John Burney Herron (Denise). After a divorce in 1965, Chuck raised his children alone for 2 years and during that time received his most cherished honor, Father of the Year 1966 Wells County Indiana. In 1967, he married Verlene (nee; Kent) Steele and gained 3 additional children; Conrad Kent Steele (Amy), Charles Jeffers Steele (deceased March 2019) and Joni Ruth Kimberlin (Kevin). Vee and Chuck enjoyed 41 action packed years together until her death. In 2009, he married Blanche (nee; Cochran) Weissert, a long time acquaintance and shared his love with her until death. This marriage brought 2 more children John Martin Weissert (Michele) and Robert Hays Weissert (Martha). Grandchildren and great grandchildren are plentiful. So, the only child finally got his lifelong wish, a big family!! Chuck began working for Wagner Electric in St. Louis in 1956 as a Manufacturing Engineer and worked his way up the ranks, becoming a plant manager of a new plant opened by Wagner in Brinkley, Arkansas in 1960. He moved to Bluffton, Indiana in 1962 to become plant manager for Franklin Electric and in 1967, moved to Indianapolis to become VP of Manufacturing for Esterline Agnus. Leaving the corporate life in 1975 as a group VP, he and his wife purchased a travel agency. Vee and Chuck hosted numerous trips all over the world until they retired in 1996. Those who knew Chuck well were aware of his love for family, golf, bird watching and bridge. Chuck is survived by his wife Blanche and eight children. Visitation for Chuck will begin at 12:00 pm and conclude at time of services at 1:00 pm on Saturday, March 12th at Second Presbyterian Church.
