Virginia Nichols Rondo Best, 88, died peacefully Sunday, November 9, 2014 at home in her apartment at Barkley Place of Fort Myers, FL. She was born May 2, 1926 in Whittemore, MI to the late Earl Nichols and Mary Alice Linton Nichols and was the second oldest of 7 children.
Upon retirement, Virginia and Dale built a house in Cape Coral. Dale died in 1992 after a strong fight with cancer. That same year, Virginia developed a close friendship with Edison Best, a member of the church she attended. They married some time later and spent many wonderful years traveling around the world. Virginia was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, always putting others before herself. She loved to cook and enjoyed reading, playing card games, watching movies and puzzles. Known for her love of young children (especially babies), Virginia was a foster mother for over 30 children during the 70’s. Possessing a true servant’s heart, Virginia was a woman of faith and the heart of the Rondo family. She was very generous and did much to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Virginia lived a true Christian life setting a real example for her daughters. She loved family, friends and God.
Virginia is survived by her loving husband of 22 years Edison Best; 2 daughters Shari Caruso and Dorothy Saviste; sister Lauretta; 3 brothers Marvin, Carl and Elgin; 4 grandchildren Kristen Fitzhugh, Nathan and Erin Randall, Chelsea and Shawn Duffin, and Jordan and Allison Randall; 5 great-grandchildren Kylie Stash, Makayla, Mya, Madison and Olivia Randall; step family Fred and Nancy Cook, Nathan Cook and Amy Cook and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her first husband of 45 years Dale Rondo and 2 brothers Harold, and Earl Jr.
