He served as a Marine in the Vietnam War, being honorably discharged in 1971. Following his service to the country, he pursued a career of entrepreneurship, and enjoyed the independence that came with that choice. Mac was very interested in his hobbies which included flying airplanes as a private pilot, fishing, and skydiving. He was also known to be a bit of a trickster, which included being quick to crack a joke and make others smile and laugh.
His survivors include his wife of 37 years, Deb; his brother, Bob, of North Fort Myers; and his sister, Kathy Ratering, of Green Lake, Wisconsin; as well as an extended family of nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his mother and father, and his brother, James.
There will be a celebration of life on June 25th from 1-4pm at the Coral Ridge Funeral Home and Cemetery, 920 Chiquita Blvd in Cape Coral, FL.
