Brian William Hurrie

Brian is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Kathleen [Kate] Mason Hurrie; his son Brian of Wethersfield, CT; his son Eric and wife Caitlin, and grandchildren John and Genevieve of Glen Ridge, NJ; his daughter Julie Tamayo and husband Jose, and grandchildren Sofia, Alessandra and J.T. of Fairfield, CT; his brother Paul and wife Elizabeth of Seabrook, NH. He was predeceased by his brother Francis of Osterville, MA. He was blessed with many nieces and nephews,

Brian was born in Boston, MA, graduated from Braintree High School, and completed his B.S. from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1970.

He was in the United States Army and National Guard for a period of eleven years. His career in state service as a Probation Officer began in CT. He later completed twenty years as a Superior Court Probation Office in Norfolk and Plymouth Counties, MA. This led to his developing a program for select probationers to perform community service at the Brockton VA Hospital assisting elderly veterans to Sunday Mass. Brian then worked ten years until 2014 as a member of the Teamsters Union Boston Convention Center.

Additionally, he visited Haiti on two occasions to help communities recover from natural disaster and transport funds for the nuns to operate a children's school. He was also in Program for forty years and fostered many long-lasting friendships in recovery from Boston to Cape Coral.

A huge fan of football and baseball, Brian loved the Red Sox and the Patriots. He was never happier than when he was sitting in Fenway Park watching a game. He fondly referred to it as the Cathedral of Boston.

Brian had a deep passion for history, National Geographic presentations, and documentaries, as well as travel. He loved Ireland and France, particularly Paris and Normandy, where we stayed with dear friends. He followed the markers leading to Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery.

Brian's children were all athletically inclined. Outside of school there annual camping trips to the National Seashore and Truro, MA. The winter gave opportunity for skiing at Mount Snow, VT and other areas. These traditions have been carried on with the grandchildren nieces and nephews, including Joe and Mike Mason of Brockton, as well as friends. Campfires on the beach allowed for sharing the stories that enriched our lives, and highlighted adventures.

Brian succumbed to vascular dementia and heart failure, remaining abundantly grateful to find peace.
