Wanda Kay Johnson, 71, of DeSoto, Texas went home to be with the Lord on December 19, 2023, in Mesquite, Texas. She was born on February 13, 1952, in Lubbock, Texas to Wayne Owens and Wanda Massey Owens.
Kay grew up in Lancaster, Texas and graduated from Lancaster High School. On May 22, 1976, she married her husband of 45 years, Jimmy Johnson. Together, they built a beautiful life and provided a foundation of love for their three daughters.
Kay stayed at home providing loving care for her girls for most of her career. She also worked several years at the Dallas County Court House as a member of their administrative staff. She was a member of Trinity Christian Church in Cedar Hill TX and within recents years attended First Baptist Church of Lancaster.
She enjoyed reading a good book and decorating the home for all occasions and celebrations. Kay was a bright light in her daughter's eyes, their friend, mentor, and mother. Her best days were days with her daughters and caring for her grandchildren.
Kay has left us way too soon and will be dearly missed but she will live on in the memories and hearts of all that knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Wanda Owens; beloved husband, Jim Johnson; her brother Michael Wayne Owens and sister Patsy Perkins.
Kay is survived by her daughters: Jessica Johnson and fiancé, Joey Renfro; Stephanie McClain and husband, Gary; Jennifer McGrath and husband, Andrew; grandchildren: Justin, Sydney, John and Kennedy; great grandchild, Kourtnee; along with a host of other family and friends.
A memorial service will be announced in the upcoming days.
Kay will rest with her dear Jim at DFW National Cemetery. The ceremony is to be held in the spring. In lieu of gifts, the family requests donations to be sent to: St. Jude.
