Mary went home to the Lord on July 19, 2024 in Big Sandy, Texas. She was born in Harlan, Kentucky on February 19, 1941 to Joe Shepherd and Gladys Fee Shepherd.
Mary was a strong woman, who for 22 years kept the home fires burning and raised a family while her beloved husband, Kenneth, served in the Army. Mary was a nurturing mother to her children and fondly called “the old wise one” by her son-in-law and other family. Mary was a pet whisperer – she loved her animals. Mary’s happy place was at home sitting in her rocking chair. Family was everything and time spent with family all around her was her biggest joy. She is now reunited with her beloved husband and other family that has gone home before her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Gladys Shepherd; husband, Kenneth Harris; son in-law, Grant Hurrell; siblings, Billie May Lilly, Denver Shepherd, Deanna Fox.
Mary is survived by her children: Theresa and Robert Keenan, Shirley Baker and Stuart Spradley, Lelia Hurrell, Jimmy Harris and Laura Jones; grandchildren: Christina and Henry, Dustin and Carly, Spenser, Kenny, Robby and Carrie, Heather and Robert, Joshua and Katie, Jonathan; ten great-grandchildren; siblings: Betty Carter of Georgia, Edna Brown, Harry Shepherd, Tommy Shepherd, Alice Poindexter all of Harlan, KY; a host of other family and friends.
