Joy Nell Bailey, 84, of Canton, Texas went home to the Lord on March 31, 2024 in Canton, Texas. She was born on December 14, 1939 at home in Van Zandt County, Texas to Ruben Mitchell and Lola Johnson Mitchell.
Joy grew up in the Van Zandt Co. area and graduated from Canton High School. She was a rural postal carrier for many years, serving the community she loved. Joy was an avid gardener. She was a long-standing member of the Master Gardeners in Van Zandt County. Flowers and vegetables were her passion. Joy enjoyed camping and fishing in her free time. Joy was married to her wonderful husband, M. O. Bailey for many years; after his passing she married her childhood friend, Leroy Crabtree, the couple had 15 beautiful years together.
Joy is preceded in death by her parents, Ruben and Lola Mitchell; beloved husband, Melvin M. O. Bailey.
She is survived by her dearly loved husband, Leroy Crabtree; son, Michael Bailey and wife, Sharon Hudson; grandchildren: Danielle Breaux and husband, Henry; Timothy Bailey and wife, Alicia; five grandchildren: Taydum. Alyssa, Chloe, Caleb and Malia; a host of other family and friends.
Inurnment will be at Phalba Cemetery.
