Barbara McIntosh Latchic passed away peacefully at her home in North Canton on August 11, 2018. Mrs. Latchic was born in 1929 to Elizabeth Currie McIntosh and William Bishop McIntosh of Akron. Mrs. Latchic attended King Elementary and Old Trail School in Akron and Stratford College in Virginia. She also attended the University of Akron before marrying James E. Griesinger in 1954. The couple made their home in North Canton until Mr. Griesinger’s death in 1972. The couple were active in the local Elks Club and adored the Tuscarawas Valley Touring Club. Mrs. Latchic later married Richard Latchic. They were avid golfers and made Bradenton, Florida their winter home, maintaining a home in North Canton. They traveled the country in their fifth wheel camper with their ever-present cock-a-poos, Bonnie and Clyde.
Mrs. Latchic was active in many charitable endeavors including the Akron Community Trust, founded in part by her father. More recently she was involved with the University of Akron and the Preservation Alliance of Greater Akron. Mrs. Latchic gave generously to too many animal rescue organizations to list. She also loved her Browns, Indians, and Cavaliers. Mrs. Latchic was a successful business woman, managing farmland in Illinois, a state she loved.
Mrs. Latchic is survived by her daughter Ann Griesinger Stephenson of Basalt, Colorado. Her grandchildren (by marriage), Dean, Sam and River Stephenson of Littleton, Colorado and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 12:00pm on Thursday at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 237 West Maple Street, North Canton, with The Rev. Dr. Richard Holmes officiating. Burial at Rose Hill Cemetery in Fairlawn following. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to your animal rescue organization of choice or to the Preservation Alliance of Greater Akron.
