She was the beloved daughter of the late Irma (Kramer) and Sidney Carnam, caring wife of the late Harvey Winitzer, loving mother of Jodi Chen (Dennis) of Livermore, CA and Matthew Winitzer (Zalika) of Shrewsbury, MA, adored grandmother of Michael, Sarah, Iliana, Hayden, and Riley, adventurous sister of Neal Carnam (Barbara) and Linda Pollack (Steven), and a fabulous aunt to all of her nieces and nephews. Marcia was also the cherished friend of Monique, Carol, Donna, Philippe, Valerie, Roland and countless others too numerous to mention, that she made as she traveled throughout the world, and she leaves indelible memories with all those who were lucky enough to have known her.
Marcia was born in Portland, Maine on September 4, 1948, and spent her formative years in Newton, Massachusetts before moving to Sharon to raise her family and continue her education. She then spent many years living a full life in Paris, France and traveling the world.
Marcia earned a D.E.A. (Masters of Law) in European Law from the University of Paris I, Panthéon-Sorbonne, a LL.M degree from Harvard Law School, and a Juris Doctor from Northeastern Law School of Boston. As a professor at Sciences Po Paris, for over 20 years, she taught subjects in comparative constitutional law, international business law as well as the impact of the law on moral and social issues, such as the death penalty in the United States.
She was a warm, funny, and generous woman who loved her family and friends and truly embodied a joie de vivre. Her bright light will always shine in our hearts.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton on Friday, February 23rd at 1pm, with the burial at Sharon Memorial Park and reception at Temple Ahavath Torah to follow.
The family will welcome relatives and friends on Saturday and Sunday from 1pm to 6pm at Marcia’s home in Boston.
