Raised in Dorchester. Attended Boston Latin school for preparatory, Boston State College as an undergraduate, and Boston College as a post-grad, where he received his doctorate in education and served as the Assistant Director of Student Teaching.
After his graduate work, he became principal of the South Elementary school in Stoughton, MA, where he also lived until the time of his passing. He held the job for 30 years. During that time he helped guide the education and support the families of 5,000 children. When he retired, the town named the street the school is on after him: David L. Fisher Way.
He was married to Diane Claire Murray, of Newton, for 25 years. She was the great love of his life. After retirement he became an educational consultant, volunteered at the JFK Presidential library, and performed mediation services. He also founded an annual fundraiser for the Stoughton Food Pantry in honor of Diane’s memory, and helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to help feed local families in need. He loved his family, music, films, and theater, playing cards with his friends, and Boston sports. He was a true mensch.
He is survived by his son Jason Fisher and grandson Andre Barth-Fisher of Westchester New York, his sister Rena, brother in law Michael, and nephews Daniel and Paul Silevitch of Brookline.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Chapel Service on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at 11 AM at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton, MA 02021. Burial will follow at Koretz Cemetery, 776 Baker Street, W. Roxbury.
