Dr. Carol J. Smith

Dr. Carol J. (Bornstein) Smith of Stoughton, MA. Entered into rest June 20, 2018 at the age of 72. Daughter of the late Robert Bornstein and late Eva (Blumsack) Bornstein. Devoted mother of Ami Smith and her fiancé Richard Walzer, the late Peter Smith and Joseph Smith. Loving sister of Linda Bornstein. Cherished grandmother (bubbe) of Maya, Sophie and Phoebe Biran. Also survived by her cousins Harley, Marty and Artie Hoffman of New Jersey. Carol was a graduate of Girls Latin School and Beth Israel Hospital School of Nursing. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Rhode Island College, Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Rhode Island and Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Case Western Reserve University. Carol worked as a Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist and Professor of Psychiatric Nursing, and will be remembered for her compassion, honesty and candor. She was a recognized expert in the area of bereavement/grief education and counseling and was a guest speaker at numerous conferences throughout the country. Carol was a lifetime member of Hadassah, a member of Sigma Theta Tau and the International Nursing Honor Society. Graveside services will be held at the Hebrew Cemetery, 73 McMahon Street, Fall River, MA on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 12 Noon. Memorial observance will be at the home of Ami Smith on Friday following burial, until 8 PM. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be donated to the Peter D.
