Son of the late Selma (Katler) and Rudolph Bedar. Beloved husband of 53 years to his best friend, Jeanne (Pober) Bedar. Adoring father of James and his wife, Shari; Lee and his wife, Kari; and David and his wife, Jennifer. Cherished “Papa” of Jack, Talia, Nathan, and Adam. Loving brother of Brad, Pam, and Cliff.
Andy was born in Boston on January 7, 1947. He grew up in Dorchester before moving to Norwood, where he and Jeanne raised their three sons.
Andy excelled academically, attending Boston Latin School and graduating from the Boston Architectural College. He became a registered architect, devoting over thirty years of his career to BKA Architects. Andy took special pride in mentoring many colleagues who relied on him as much for his personal wisdom as his professional expertise.
Andy was particularly honored to have been appointed to the Massachusetts Architectural Access Board, where for 15 years he developed and revised regulations designed to make public buildings safe and accessible for people with disabilities.
Remembered for his searing wit, unwavering perseverance, incredible attention to detail, and fearsome curveball, Andy will be greatly missed. His devotion to family and his commitment to doing things right – and always doing the right thing – will live on.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at 1 PM at Stanetsky Memorial Chapel, 475 Washington Street, Canton. Burial will follow at Sharon Memorial Park, 40 Dedham Street, Sharon. Shiva will be held immediately afterwards, at the home of James and Shari Bedar in Westborough.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Andy’s memory may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research at give.michaeljfox.org
