Joan Germain Robbins

Joan was born in Los Angeles, California during the great depression and was

named Goldie after her aunt who paid for the hospital bill.

Her Mother was in her 40's when she was born leading to the belief her birth may

have not been planned.

Her younger years were spent in Santa Monica California in an apartment right

off the beach. She had a lot of independence as a child. She told stories of hopping

on a bus with a friend to go to the movies downtown all day at a young age. She

loved Frank Sinatra and was a self-professed bobby soxer, which was a fan that

would wait outside to try to see him.

She married young and had four children. After having the first two children she

developed Kidney problems that led to having one of her kidneys removed. She

told the story of her writing a letter to the doctor to see if she could have more

children. The doctor approved and the last 2 children came 8 and 9-1/2 years

after the first two.

After living in Reseda and Northridge Joan inherited money from her great aunt

Esther Scott of which one son has the middle name and one son has the first name

in tribute. The inheritance was used to buy her dream home in Chatsworth.

Many parties and holiday celebrations took place in that house. Joan loved

animals and there were always many of them in the house. Due to its proximity to

a busy street Joan was always taking in stray dogs until their owners could be

found.

Joan was a highly talented painter who created many masterpieces in her lifetime.

One of her specialties was Celebrity portraits. In her final year at the Brookdale

assisted living facility they had a showing of some of her many works.

After her marriage of 28 years ended Joan was forced to reinvent herself becoming a top retail salesperson at Bullocks department store. She won several awards and was honored as the top salesperson in the entire store, Joan moved into another house in Chatsworth where she spent 47 years, painting, collecting dolls, decorating, redecorating and hosting family celebration.

Joan loved collecting dolls and had a room dedicated to her large collection. The license plate on her car was Dollgal and her email address was [email protected]

In 1994 the Northridge Earthquake damaged her home and if that wasn’t bad enough, she battled both Colon and Breast cancer. Joan was a fighter and a survivor. Joan was generous and proud of her large family. She was strong willed and wanted things her way and most of the time if she wanted something she got it.

She was loved and will be missed.

Joan leaves behind a large family that includes:
