Howard Edward Daniels

1928-2018

Howard E. Daniels, educator, passed away March 10, 2018, in the loving care of family and friends, following a brief illness. He was 89 years old. Howard loved to teach and was thrilled to spend his working days with his students. He taught History and French at Birmingham High School for 40 years before retiring in 2000. He was a hard worker and good provider. During the summers in particular, he worked at Ralph’s grocery in the produce department. He said he liked working in produce, because he was always moving.

Howard Daniels was born in Ogden, UT but spent most of his youth in Oakland, CA. He moved back to North Ogden as a young man, from where he was called to serve as an LDS missionary in the Near East Mission, primarily serving in Lebanon. The mission was closed while he was there and he subsequently served in England and Belgium. Upon his return, he joined the Air Force. While stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB in Tucson, AZ, he resumed his college education at the University of Arizona, graduating with a Masters Degree in History and Secondary Teaching credentials. After graduation, he brought his family to California and began teaching at Birmingham High School in Van Nuys. He and his first wife, Ruth, had four children. He is survived by three of them: David Daniels, Suzanne Dunbar, and Deborah Sand. He is also survived by his brother Arthur Daniels, and sister Carol Jean Spence. He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher, his first wife, and second wife Darla. The last eight years he was blessed with the loving companionship of his third wife, Mary Artman Daniels.

A funeral service will be held at the LDS Chapel on 7045 Farralone Ave, Canoga Park, at 11 am Saturday, March 24. There will be a viewing from 10:00 am to 10:40, just prior to the service. He will be buried at the Ben Lomand Cemetery in North Odgen, UT
