The jovial outgoing, loving, compassionate, generous and opinionated Colleen Mayne aka “Sweet C” to family, aged 47, passed away on June 17, 2018 in Tarzana, California in the presence of her mother and family friends. She remained steadfast in her faith as she courageously battled cancer for five years, sharing an optimistic spirit with all she encountered.
Colleen was born in Kingston, Jamaica on October 8, 1970 to Cleredene Sheriff and Leslie Donovan Mayne. In 1981, at age 11, she and her family moved to New York City, where in three years she cultivated lifelong friendships. In 1985, she relocated to Los Angeles, California. There she attended Hamilton High School and later the University of California, Riverside, where she obtained a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Biology in 1992.
After graduating college, Colleen fulfilled a passion to work in the entertainment industry. She made appearances in feature films such as “The Wood” and “Jackie Brown,” and a popular television series such as “Parenthood,” “Martin,” “Moesha,” and “Almost There!”
While pursuing entertainment opportunities, Colleen also worked in the pharmaceutical industry from 2001 to 2005, and later received a certification as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist in 2010.
She was an avid traveler who seized as many opportunities as possible to see the world with her family and close friends. Colleen visited more then 30 countries and delighted in the foods and people of other cultures, and adventurous activities like zip-lining, hiking, jet-skiing, parasailing and more. She was truly elated to share her travel experiences with her mom and her soul mate, Earle Burke.
She is survived by her mother, Cleredene Sheriff, sister Tania Hernandez, Gina Bryan, Natasha Richards and Jackie Richards and brother Andre Tony Watts, as well as a multitude of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, god sisters and god children.
Shortly after her death, June 20, 2018, the family experienced the heartbreak of the passing of Colleen’s grandmother Ruth Mayne, known by her grandchildren as “Mama.”
In the word of Colleen, remember: “We are here to connect as ONE, doing God’s will.”
May the Lord be with you.
