Walter Thompson passed away peacefully at home with family by his side on October 1st 2021 at the age of 83. He fought a courageous battle with cancer but never let that dull his spirit, his love for life or take away his awesome sense of humor.
Walter lost his father at 16, and being the oldest he took on the role of caretaker to his brothers and sisters. According to them he took that "very" seriously. Meaning they didn’t get away with much. He was "their rock", and he cherished that role too.
He started out as a scaler at Fraser', and when Flemming & Gibson recruited him, he moved to Edmundston with his family. He then transferred to Juniper, where he worked for years, until Irving came calling, and he uprooted again, becoming a woodland superintendent in Sussex for many years. He retired earlier than he would've liked due to health reasons and eventually moved to Campbellton, too his roots, where he reconnected with Leta. They soon became inseparable. She was his everything and he loved her to pieces, and she loved him right back. She was by his side until the very end, just like they both wanted.
Walter had a great love for outdoors. He loved his community, he had a insatiable appetite for reading, and he loved the Campbellton Tigers. He was an active member of his church, spirtual volunteer at the hospital and was a long time member of the lions club.
Walter never had a bad word to say about anyone, and all you had to do was mention his name for people to sing his praises. He was loved by all who knew him.
Aside from being survived by his loving wife Leta, he leaves behind his daughter Kim (Harold) and his son Owen. Step children Shelly (Ken), Sharon (John). His siblings Don (Sandra), Malcolm (Francine), Sandra (Joe-deceased) and Gordon (Bell). He was predeceased by his parents, Freeman and Isobel, and infant sister Reba, brothers Keith, Terry, Richard and sister Sharon. His daughter Tracey and son Blaine. Stepsons Danny and Rick and grandson Kyle.
He will also be greatly missed by his 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, his many nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. The world will be a little less bright without him. He was a special light with a very strong faith. He is now home, resting in the arms of Jesus.
Funeral services will be held at Christ Church in Campbellton on Tuesday October 5th 2021 at 2:00pm, viewing at 1:00pm.
