She was a loving and devoted mother to her six children, Karen, Sandra, Donna, David, Maria, and Barry. She was also devoted to her nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Ruth and her sister Nora lost their mother Anna Michel, at a young age and were raised by their loving Auntie Lilly and their father John Bernard (San Jo).
Ruth began her professional career in New York City, and returned home to Listuguj where she married David Isaac who predeceased her in 1999. In all things, Ruth was a trailblazer, she was one of the first female Band Administrators in Canada. As a member of the National Indian Education Council in the late sixties and helped the late Jean Goodwill to establish the Native Nurses Association of Canada.
Ruth lived life to the fullest and always encouraged others in the family to be daring, brave, and respectful.
Everyone is invited to her home for visitation from 8:00 pm on Monday, April 22nd, and Tuesday April 23rd from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm at 95 Riverside East, in Listuguj.
A funeral service will be held at Maher’s Funeral chapel on Tuesday, April 23rd at 3:00 pm followed by a potluck at the Bingo Hall on Dundee Road.
