Born on February 27, 1942, in Lower Derby, NB to the late Willis and Irene Mullin, Helen was predeceased by Val, her husband of 56 years in January of 2018. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Brenda (Stephen) Jenkins of Auburn, AL and her son Brent (Rachel) of Fredericton, NB. Her 5 grandchildren who were so dear to her are Daniel, Michael and Leah Jenkins, and Abby and Sophie Stewart. She also leaves to mourn her sister June (Alan) MacNaughton and her brother Fred (Carol), as well as many nieces and nephews. Helen was predeceased by her brother Robert and his wife Catherine.
Helen was a 1960 graduate of Harkins High School. She worked at NBTel in Campbellton as a stenographer in the early 60s. Helen and Val opened Stewart Surveys in 1975 and were in business until 2018. They worked as a team and they had many wonderful friendships within the business community. They especially enjoyed the annual NB surveyor’s meetings.
Helen was a member of Tide Head United Church and was active in volunteering in the church and community. Helen had many interests and loved Saturday morning yard sales, golfing, boating on the Restigouche, entertaining and weekend trips with the girls. Helen was a connecting thread for family and friends; often the contact that kept in-laws and cousins, distant relations and neighbors that had traveled far afield in touch. She loved to host regardless if it involved preparing one of her elaborate desserts or an impromptu visit on the patio. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.
Our family wishes to express our heartfelt appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Oncology Unit of the Moncton Hospital who, while working under the most challenging of circumstances, provided Mom with the most generous compassion and care. Her children also wish to express their love and gratitude to Mom’s sister June and friend Wanda for all they did for Mom during her illness.
There will be no visitation or funeral, as per Helen’s wishes. A graveside service will be held at the Campbellton Rural Cemetery on May 16th at 11am.
Donations may be made in Helen’s honor to the Tide Head United Church, the Lower Derby United Baptist Church and the Campbellton Protestant Cemetery Fund, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
Funeral arrangements were entrusted in the care of Maher's Funeral Home, Campbellton.
