It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Walter Aaron Klassen at the age of 68. He is survived by his wife Susan, his five daughters and his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, papa, brother, uncle and friend.
The oldest of five boys, Walt grew up in Black Creek with his many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Walt’s life was always full of fun and adventure from climbing mountains, canoeing, camping, caving and hiking. Music was also a major part of his life whether it was singing in a choir or playing his guitar at family gatherings.
One of Walt’s biggest passions was his 27 years of teaching in the Campbell River School District. He always had a story to tell his students to make their learning personal and relevant. After he retired he would always hear, “Hey there’s Mr. Klassen, he was my favourite teacher.”
Walt’s devotion to his wife and family was only surpassed by his favourite sport – Hockey. The family made sure he had every hat, mug, plate and t-shirt with the Canucks logo on it.
After Walt’s retirement his great loves were his garden and his grandchildren. On sunny days he could be found digging in his garden, moving plants, or picking fruits and vegetables. He also loved being a Papa. Whether he was painting, drawing, playing games or reading to them.
We will miss his gentle nature, loving smile and free spirit.
The family would like to thank everyone that has reached out with support and kind words.
A private celebration of life will be held for his immediate family.
