It is with great sadness that the family of Ron Dawson announces his passing at the Campbell River Hospital after a brief illness on Monday October 26,2020 at the age of 89 years. Ron will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 65 years, Jean and his children Lori, Ken (Dana) Gord (Lorna) and 7 grandchildren Ashley, Matthew, Stephanie, Jessica, Lisa, Nicole, Bryce and 4 great grandchildren Conner, Wyatt, Logan and Kennedy, and many nieces and nephews. Ron was predeceased by his 6 siblings.
Ron was born at the Lourdes Hospital in Campbell River to Stewart and Mabel Dawson. Ron’s dad Stewart was the first police officer in Campbell River. Ron started logging for Elk River Timber at the age of 15 as school was not for him. Later Ron and his brother Andy and his brother in law Horsey Calnan started DCD Pile Driving. Ron was also the founder of Discovery Crane Rental. Ron never a man to sit still decided he wanted to drive logging truck and started RK Dawson trucking. Fishing was another passion of Ron’s and he wanted to commercial fish so he bought a 40 foot west coast troller named the Kelly O. Ron fished during the summer and ran crane during the winter. Ron briefly retired and after a call from Al Lyster he returned to driving logging truck for KAT Lowbed Services. Ron thoroughly enjoyed this job and the challenge of driving Buttles Bluff.
Ron spent many hours volunteering his crane business in the community helping build the Campbell River Curling Rink, the Four Square Church and the public boat launch at the Tyee Spit. Ron was also a member of the Campbell River Volunteer Fire Dept for many years.
Ron and Jean spent many winters in Yuma Arizona where they met many good friends, they also took many cruises with these friends and family. Ron loved fishing with friends and family on the west coast and being the “highliner” on these trips. Ron also dearly loved spending time at their home on Upper Campbell lake surrounded by his family.
The family would like to thank the staff of 3A Campbell River Hospital for their care and compassion for Ron. The family would also like to thank the staff of Discovery Harbour Seniors Community for their care over the last two years.
