Richard (Dick) Alwyn Freeman
Nov 24, 1925 - Oct 26, 2022
Just shy of his 97th birthday, our infinitely handsome father has flown his final flight. Dick was born in Victoria, BC to Richard T Freeman and Florence Lillian (nee Atkinson). He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Shirley Freeman (nee Mahood), Louise Delancey Kliewer (Erich), Janice Houghton (Al), Kathleen Waller (Doug), Rick Freeman (Kathy), 12 grandchildren and 6 greatgrandchildren, nieces Linda Weiker and Lesley Kay, predeceased by sister Dorothy Kay (Ron).
Dick and Shirley were long time residents of Stories Beach, Campbell River. Dick was a science geek before geeks were cool. One of his earliest passions was sailing which was interrupted by service in WWII and the RCAF. He loved all things aeronautical, astrophysics, and pondering the laws of the universe. Dick had a successful 40 year career with BC Tel/Telus. A lifelong passion was amateur (HAM) radio and he was a founding member of CRARS, receiving a lifetime award in 2012. But to his family, he was one quirky, lovable husband/Dad/Poppi and will forever live on in our hearts.
Many thanks to VIHA and nurses at CR District Hospital. A memorial celebration of life
will be held in Dec.
