It is with profound sorrow that the family of Richard Anthony Baker announces his passing on December 15, 2022 at 80 years of age. He is predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Frances Baker, and his brother, John Baker.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Janet (McNeil); his sons, Adam (Jacquie) and Joey (Brenda), of whom he was so proud; and his beloved grandchildren, Jessica, Oliver, Brendan and Irie. He will be dearly missed by his in-law family of five sisters and three brothers along with many nieces and nephews. As well, his thirteen siblings and their families in Nova Scotia will dearly miss their big brother. Richard was a 34-year veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer at CFB Chilliwack, after living in Saskatchewan, eastern Ontario, southern Ontario, and Alberta throughout his career. He was an avid fisherman and spent many happy moments fishing the Vedder and Fraser Rivers after his retirement. He and Janet moved to Campbell River in 2004 where he soon became a familiar sight on Discovery Passage in his boat, Jobie 1. Richard could also be seen every day working in his gardens and keeping the yard in immaculate shape, which was his pride and joy.
We are all so grateful for the care provided to him by the Emergency staff at Campbell River Hospital, and especially to Dr Mary Ramsey and Dr Rob Ramsey for the extraordinary caring and compassion shown to him and his family. We cannot thank them enough for their kindness.
A family memorial service will be held for Richard at a later date.
