With immense sadness we say good-bye to our beloved Linda. From the time of her cancer diagnosis to her passing, she forged on with her typical positivity and hope for the future, full of gratitude for the excellent care she received.
Throughout her life Linda was the quintessential giver. Her hands were never idle: she knitted, baked, phoned, cheered, and tended to others. It was her special calling. Her compassion led her and Neil to house and nurture teen males in need. Long time ‘3rd son’ Scott is still in their extended family. She was a Big Sister to Krista (who had Down Syndrome), a regular volunteer at the Special Olympics, and an active member of the Lions Club. Linda was a fabulous cook and baker and made breads, cinnamon buns, pies and her famous Christmas cakes to ‘relax’…then she gave them away. People will miss the many ways that Linda graced their lives.
Linda’s hairdressing salon ‘Armadillo’ won many BC hair stylist awards and countless friends. She often enjoyed afternoons and evenings of music and dancing at the old Quinnie. She loved meals out with her friends and Fridays were devoted to lunch and nails with Margie Mom, her stepmom and friend. She found peace and beauty walking local trails and paddling the Campbell River estuary. She loved travel with friends, Margie Mom, and Neil, and treasured the last special road trip with Neil, the love of her life, to the Yukon.
Linda had a unique talent for bringing people together. She had bottomless optimism and empathy for all. Her trademark was believing in the worth of everyone. Linda found and created fun wherever she went. Even in her illness, when times became challenging, she would launch hilarious witticisms.
The family is very grateful to all Linda’s skilled, compassionate physicians, especially Dr. George Halse and Dr. Linda Wilson. Nursing care at Campbell River Hospital was exemplary as staff devoted themselves to keeping Linda comfortable and as symptom-free as possible. Special thanks to Linda’s nightshift guardian friends Barb, Brenda, Linda B., and Vicki, and to all Linda’s family and friends who expressed their love in so many ways.
Linda leaves behind Neil, her precious husband of almost 50 years, and cherished sons Jared and Allan, brother Doug (Stephanie), nephews Jessie and Marc, niece Madison, stepmom Margaret, sister-in-law Shirley (Peter), niece Leah (Tim), great-niece Kestrel, and nephew Jonathan. She was predeceased by mom and dad Allan and Joan Nuyts.
Celebration of Life will be held at Willow Point Hall, 2165 S. Island Hwy, Campbell River on Sunday, February 12 at 2pm. We invite guests to bring their own baking and photos to Linda’s reception and welcome sharing of your memories of Linda.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.suttonsfuneralhome.com for the Toop family.
