John Lorne Coleman

John Lorne Coleman passed away peacefully in Campbell River Hospital, surrounded by his family. John was born in Whitehorse, Yukon Territories and his family moved to Vancouver when he started school. He later lived in Port Hardy, Surrey, and then moved to Courtenay in 2001. In 2016 John and his wife Beverly moved to Campbell River to live near his youngest daughter, Jaime, and her family.

John is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Beverly, daughters Samantha (Joel), and Jaime (Brad), grandchildren, Olivia, Rose, Beth and Jack, sister-in-law Judy Calvert, as well as nieces and nephew (Cheryl, Dan, Leanne, and Mercy).

John had a lifetime enjoying the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and hunter from the time he was a young boy. He spent his leisure time gardening, chopping/gathering firewood, and camping. John loved to travel. Among the highlights of retirement adventures are holidays to the East Coast of Canada, Hawaii, Australia, and cruising.

John was an aircraft mechanic, starting with BC Airlines in Port Hardy, and then later CPAir. He retired from Canadian Airlines as an inspector crew chief in 1999.

John was a loyal friend to many, a devoted husband to Beverly, dedicated father to Samantha and Jaime, a loving Papa to his grandkids, a good neighbour, and he appreciated and loved his family to the end of his life. He was known to his family and friends as “Mr.Fix-It” and had a knack for problem solving, repairs, and was always willing to lend his skills and time.

Over the last few years John had cardiovascular health issues. The care he received at the Campbell River Hospital was excellent and his family are most appreciative to the CR hospital staff.

A private gathering with family and friends to celebrate John’s life will be held at a later date.
