It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gerry Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife; Roeberta Ross, his children; Ben Johnson (Lauren) and Tasha Page (John), his stepchildren; David Jackson (Jennifer) and Shelley Abanilla (Walter), his grandchildren; Colton, Alyssa, Dakota, Thomas and Maxwell, his brother; Tommy Johnson (Barb), and a large group of extended family and friends.
Gerry was born in Victoria, BC, where he began his career as a talented red seal baker. Gerry worked for a number of independent bakeries, including his own; Tasha’s Bakery, before working for many years as a baker for Thrifty Foods. After living in Victoria, Sooke, and Ladner, his retirement years were spent in Campbell River. Gerry loved music, Star Trek, and craft beer. He could often be seen enjoying a beer with friends at Beach Fire brewing in Campbell River.
His family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and home care with Island Health for their kindness in caring for him in the last few years of his life.
Gerry had a heart of gold and will be dearly missed. In the words of his beloved Neil Young: “It’s better to burn out than to fade away”.
