She grew up with her sister Helen and parents Joseph and Virginia Hemler in Gettysburg, PA. She was a graduate of St Joseph’s Girls High School in Emmitsburg, MD and graduated from Penn State University. She was a member of Delta Gamma sorority and active for many years as an alumnus.
Ruth moved to Camp Hill, PA after marrying Earl Miller (deceased). They married in 1948 and shared 63 wonderful years together. Following her employment with a Harrisburg law firm, she became a stay-at-home mother to her four children.
She was a member at West Shore Country Club for more than 50 years. An avid golfer, she won the Women’s Club Championship a record eleven times.
Ruth lived a long and beautiful life, passing peacefully at home three weeks shy of her 99th birthday, surrounded by her family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Hospice of Central PA or Good Shepherd Catholic Church, Camp Hill.
She is survived by her sister, Helen Norman of Bay Head, NJ. She is also survived by her children, Deborah Martin of Lemoyne, Craig Miller of Camp Hill and grandchildren Craig Miller Jr. (Anne) of Mechanicsburg, and Megan Gelburd (Ryan) of New Cumberland; Carol Dressel and her husband Daniel of Malvern, PA and grandchildren Ryan Dressel (Corinne) of Blue Bell, PA and Stephen Dressel (Nicole) of Berwyn, PA; and Scott Miller and his wife Gabriela of Lemoyne. She is survived by ten great grandchildren and also by nephew Steve Norman (Teri) of Martinsville, NJ, niece Sue Calamoneri of Branchburg, NJ.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday December 19 at 11:00 AM at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 3435 E Trindle Rd, Camp Hill, PA 17011. A viewing will be held before Mass at 10:00 AM at the church. Interment will be private.
