He was born April 24, 1935 in Green Mountain, NC. He was the son of the late George G. Sr. and Besse (Deyton) Forbes. He was married to the former Edith Joann Johnson who preceded him in death in 2003.
George was a graduate of Lewisburg High School in Union County. After spending a number of years in the furnace industry, he entered the automobile business in the late in the late 1960's. He opened Forbes Chevrolet in Marysville in 1975. By 1983, the business had become too large for the Marysville site. George bought Sunderland Chevrolet and moved the dealership to Lemoyne in 1984. The business continued to grow resulting in the need to expand to Hartzdale Drive in Camp Hill where it existed for twenty years. In 2007, George retired from the dealership. The decision to retire was very agonizing for him because of the relationship he had with his employees who he always thought of as his extended family. George was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. During his retirement years, he spent the winter months in Florida. He was a member of the Camp Hill Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by a son, George III and daugher-in-law, Veronica, of Camp Hill and daughter Melissa of Philmont, NY; a brother, William Forbes and his wife, Sue of Englewood, FL; sister Sue Snow and husband, William, of Nokomis FL and sister, Nora Forbes, of Nokomis FL.
