Passed away surrounded by his wife Arlene and his daughters Michelle and Suzanne at South Muskoka Hospital in Bracebridge on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the age of 85. He is survived by his wife Arlene of 48 years, son Robert (Nelda), daughter Donna (Cliff), daughter Michelle (Mark), daughter Suzanne (Darcy) and devoted grandfather to Ryan, Galen, Jessica, Brooklyn, Madison and Nathan. Predeceased by his parents Josephine and Lawrence Robert and sister Marilyn. Greg was born and raised in suburban Toronto where he graduated from Runnymede Collegiate, then the University of Toronto. He was interested in sports and represented both schools in football and track. After graduating from the Ontario College of Education he taught at Guelph and then came to Cambridge to teach at Glenview Park and Southwood Secondary School. He enriched the lives of many students through being a guidance counsellor and Vice principal. The summer job that most influenced him in his later life was a camp counsellor at Camp Pine Crest. After graduating, his interests became curling, golf and canoeing. The love of canoeing continued until his death. He loved to take solo canoe trips of two or three days until Arlene made him stop when he entered his seventies. Nature was always calling him. He banded birds as a teenager and led bird hikes in High Park. We have all been blessed to have known and shared in his life. A visitation will be held at Coutts Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 96 St. Andrews Street, Cambridge (519-621-1650) on Tuesday July 2, 2013 from 4-6 pm. A reception with details will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation or charity of your choice.
