Percy Cox

COX, Percy 1915 - 2011 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Percy Cox, on February 16, 2011, in his 96th year. Beloved husband of the late Beatrice "Betty" (nee Zimmerman). Devoted father of Dorothy Clemens (Gerald) of Bell Island, NFLD, Robert (Leona), Ken (Jill Ferguson), and Evelyn Parsons, all of Cambridge. Loving Papa to James (Crystal), Lisa, Darcy and Megan Cox, and Stefanie and Kathleen Parsons. Special Great-Grandfather to Allan. One of eleven children of James and Martha Cox, he is survived by his sisters Margaret Harker of Florida, and Shirley Brent of Cambridge. Predeceased by his brothers William and Raymond Cox, and sisters Edith Rhodey, Mildred Rainey, Mary Jane Greenwood, Violet Thomson, Effie Watson, and Edna Stahlbaum. He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Percy was born in Cox's Cove, NFLD, and settled in Hespeler as a young boy with his family. He played baseball as a young man on several teams and coached many youth sports later in life. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II, and served in various roles at Camp Borden and other bases throughout Canada. Upon the end of the war, Percy worked as a subcontractor and later spent the majority of his working life at the Royal Metal in Cambridge. He retired in 1980. In 1983, with his wife Betty, Percy parcelled off part of the property they owned on Avenue Road in Cambridge, upon which Avenue Road Baptist Church was built and currently stands. Their home on the property is now used at the Welcome House Refugee Ministry. He was an active member of Avenue Road Baptist Church for many years. Visitation will be held at T. Little Funeral Home , 223 Main St., Cambridge on Thursday, February 24 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. A service of remembrance will be held at Avenue Road Baptist Church, 465 Avenue Road, Cambridge on Friday, February 25 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Avenue Road Baptist Church - Percy Cox Memorial Fund. Thank you to the staff of Saint Luke's Place for their fine care of Percy for the years he lived there, as well as CCAC for their caring service.
