Amber, the youngest of a family of six, was born to John Mackey and Mona Ellen Mackey (nee Gough) June 20, 1921. Born in Napier, Ontario, she grew up in Strathroy, Ontario, moving to Toronto after finishing high school to work at Lever Brothers. It was while living in Toronto that she met the love of her life, Allan (“Pat”) Eaton Patterson. They were married in Toronto on May 15th, 1948. They moved to Galt and went on to adopt their children James Allan Patterson and Mary Ellen (Budreau) Patterson. Jim and Mary Ellen have always felt very fortunate and grateful to be adopted by two such loving parents.
In addition to being a faithful wife and loving mother, Amber spent much of her life as an active church member of Central Presbyterian Church belonging to the Catharine Nairn Circle and the Flower Guild. She also volunteered at the Hospital Auxiliary at Cambridge Memorial Hospital. She even tried her hand at teaching Tai Chi for the local Senior’s group. Amber loved playing bridge, or euchre, or really any card game and belonged to several bridge clubs. She was an active member of the curling club and the golf club. Amber loved to entertain and she will be fondly remembered for her raucous laugh and love for a “good joke”.
Predeceased by her husband Allan, her siblings Iola, Kenneth, Thomas, Ogle and Murray, as well as by nieces Anne and Marilyn and nephew Jack, Amber will be remembered with love by her son Jim and wife Penny, by her daughter Mary Ellen and husband Craig, by her grandchildren Charlie (Jennifer), Emma (Dominic), Blake and Jessica, and by her great grandchildren Annabelle, Allan, Natalie and Hazel. She will also be fondly missed by her sister-in-law Thelma, by nephews Gary (wife Vera), John (wife Judy), Al (wife Dorothy) by her niece Barb (husband John), and by all her great nieces and nephews.
Amber will be resting at Coutts Funeral Home in Cambridge where a small, private service will be held December 23, 2020 prior to interment beside her loving husband Allan (Pat) in New Hope Cemetery in Cambridge (Hespeler). A celebration of life will be held at a later date when travelling will be less restricted.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Central Presbyterian Church in Cambridge or to Cambridge Memorial Hospital, or your favorite charity.
