Ján Príboj

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ján Príboj on Thursday, February 1st, 2024, at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, after a lengthy illness at the age of 80. He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Ján was the beloved husband of Ružena (nee Vanková) for 54 wonderful years and a devoted father to Jaroslav (Cheryl). He is now reunited with his son Martin (1997). A proud Starký to Preston Martin, Jacob William, and James Thomas, Ján's warmth and wisdom touched the lives of many. Dear brother to Ondrej (Magdaléna) of Slovakia. Predeceased by his parents Ondrej and Amália (nee Bartonová) and his brother František (2023)

Born in Slovakia, Ján came to Canada on April 17th, 1986, settling in Cambridge, Ontario. He continued his career as a mechanical engineer, and further earned his designation as a Professional Engineer of Ontario. His professional journey included contributions to companies like Havlík, Rudy's Machining, and Desch Drive Technology, where he dedicated his skills until retirement.

Ján's retirement years were filled with joy as he explored the world alongside his wife. Passionate about waterfalls, he made it a point to visit these natural wonders across the globe, ticking off every continent. Whether in his garden, at the family cottage, or around the fire creating goulash with his grandchildren, Ján found joy in the simple pleasures of life.

A skilled handyman, he tackled projects like finishing their basement with his son Jaroslav and installing new backyard steps. Social by nature, Ján appreciated time spent with neighbours and enjoyed games of chess and puzzles. He was a family man at heart, always making time for those he loved – often times over a shared meal of good food.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Ján's life will be held on Thursday, February 8th, 2024, at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street, Cambridge at 2 p.m., with one hour of visitation taking place between 1-2 p.m. Expressions of sympathy can be made through donations to the World Wildlife Fund or the Canadian Mental Health Association in Ján's memory and would be gratefully appreciated.

Ján Príboj will be deeply missed by his extended family, friends, and all who had the privilege of sharing in his remarkable journey through life. May he rest in eternal peace.
