Born on October 11, 1926, in Kupferzell, Germany, Gisela's life was a testament to resilience and adventure. She lived through the trials of World War II as a teenager and, as a young woman, embarked on a brave journey to Canada, where she built a new life. Gisela taught herself English and worked tirelessly as a waitress to support herself, displaying strength and determination at every turn.
Gisela had a deep love for the outdoors, often finding solace and joy in nature. She was an enthusiastic traveler, cherishing every chance to explore and share vivid tales of her youth in Germany and Switzerland. In her quiet moments, she found joy in reading and knitting.
Her warmth, humor, and storytelling will be deeply missed by her surviving family: her sons, Chris van Laar and Erwin van Laar, and her daughter, Linda Kralka, their spouses, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Eric van Laar. Gisela leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Gisela's remarkable life on December 12, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Parklawn Cemetery in Cambridge.
