With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Frederick Thomas Coe on Saturday, February 18, 2023. Fred passed peacefully at Freeport Health Centre at the age of 81 after a brief yet brave battle with brain cancer.
Fred is together once again with the love of his life, his beloved wife, Patricia Ann (nee Cowburn) (1979) after so many years apart.
Loving father of Cathy and Steve (Jane) Coe, proud Grandpa and Papa to Rachel, Eric, Amanda, Ryan, Nolan, Marissa and Great-Grandpa to Logan. Dear brother to Elaine (Ken) Long and brother-in-law to Patty Coe. Dear brother-in Law to Barb (Keith) O’Neil, Laima Cowburn, Jeff (Wendy) Cowburn, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Fred and Violet Coe, his brother David Coe, and brother-in-Law Richard Cowburn. Fred will be forever remembered by his extended family on the Cowburn side and the many cousins and friends spread throughout the country.
Fred grew up in London, Ontario where he met and later married his beloved wife, Patricia. An avid sports fan, in his earlier years Fred enjoyed sports of all kinds: golf, racquetball, squash, and softball. As a gifted softball player, he even played at the Canadian National level in the 1960's. Aside from sports, Fred also loved water skiiing, swimming, and fishing. In his later years he continued to enjoy golf and racquetball. He continued to be a contributing member of the community where he volunteered his time teaching racquetball and squash at the YMCA in Cambridge for nearly 30 years. Fred was a kind, caring, and generous man who had a great sense of humour. His laugh was infectious and he was constantly telling jokes until the very end.
Fred recently joined the Galt Legion Branch in the last 2 years of his life with the hopes of carrying on his father, father-in-law, and son’s military legacy. Above all else, family was everything to Fred. He loved his time spent with his grandchildren and cherished the bonds that he had with each of them.
Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. at Coutts Funeral Home, 96 St. Andrews Street, Cambridge. A Funeral Service will take place the following day, on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Coutts Funeral Home. Fred will be laid to rest, alongside his wife Patricia at Trinity Anglican Cemetery in the Spring.
Due to allergies, in lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations made in Fred's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
