The former came naturally, and she explored the latter through dress, interior decoration and directly as an artist of lovely nature watercolours. Her professional training in nursing in Montreal set her up for enduring friendships with fellow students across the country, including reunions marking decades-long relationships. Over her life she enjoyed many summers at several beautiful cottages within Ontario, which she and her husband John generously shared with others. Extended families met first at Foote’s Bay in Muskoka and a different generation—their children’s children--on Lake Huron. At cottages or home, Betty put thought and effort into making life better for her family. In Galt, Betty’s mixed and women’s bridge clubs provided launch pads for yet more enduring friendships which she cultivated faithfully. She never stopped making friends and attracting admirers and her concern and efforts for family and friends never waned. She will be missed by many and mourned by her children, Jane, Anne, Alison, John, and Cam and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Galt Idea Exchange (the public library) would be appreciated by the family.
