It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Edward (Ned) Nicholas Purcell announce his peaceful passing at Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Cambridge, Ontario on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 in his 97th year. Edward was born in Bell Island, Newfoundland.
Left to mourn sons, Edward (Sonny) Purcell (Audrey), Roger (Mary) Purcell, Jamie (Cindy) Purcell, Robin Purcell, Ronnie Purcell, daughters Alice (Hubert) Spencer, Maxine (Dave) Mulheln, RoseMarie (Lou) Legere, Doris (Randy) Keating, Patsy (James) Smith and step-son Patrick (Marilyn) Murphy. Edward leaves behind his legacy of 31 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren. Also survived by his many nieces, nephews and their families.
Edward was the son of the late William and Martha (nee Peddle) Purcell. He was also predeceased by his wife Doris Mary (nee Murphy) Purcell in 1985. Daughters Doreen Purcell, Tina Marie Hogg, son Thomas, grandson Dale Edward Purcell, great-grandson Justin Millson, daughter-in-law Sandy Purcell, brothers George (Nell) Purcell, James (Martha) Purcell, William (Lucy) Purcell, Gordon (Helen) Purcell, sisters Mary (Jake) Bradbury, Ann (Denny) Rose, Nell (Peter) O’Brian, Dorothy (James) Kennedy and Elizabeth (Gordon) White.
Our thanks to Cambridge Country Manor for the care Edward received over the past 5.5 years and to Cambridge Memorial Hospital, Dr. Penner, emergency room and 4th floor nursing staff for the wonderful care and compassion he received during his stay.
Relatives and friends will be received at Coutts Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, St. Andrews Street, Cambridge, Ontario N1S 1M8 (519)621-1650 on Saturday, February 16, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Interment Mount View Cemetery.
