I was shocked and saddened by your beloved husband's sudden death. When the end is in sight and it happens, it  can be traumatic, but when it is so untimely,  the pain is unimaginable!  Please accept my deepest sympathy in your  great loss.
May God comfort and strengthen  you to bear  Dear Donald's departure.
May his Soul Rest in Peace.

We were so pleased to find so intelligent and kind , clever person.

Don told us a lot about Canadian life and help us to feel real new Canadians.

The Cambridge Ski Group is shocked and so very saddened by Don’s sudden passing.  Each and every one of us sends our love and heartfelt condolences during this difficult time.
We will forever hold dear fond memories of the special weeks we shared together at Gray Rocks and Mont Blanc: the excitement each year of planning the upcoming event, the FEAR of facing the hill on that first day, the fun and laughter when getting together each evening for dinner, and of course - the “How Did You Do Today Report” where we each confessed our own list of mishaps on the hill for the day.  All such wonderful reminders of the good times we all shared with you and Don.
We hope the love and closeness you share with your family will support you though the coming days and weeks.

When I think of Don, I remember him best from his visits with Martina at Western University. Don and Barry would come to visit and while Barry was checking the fridge and cupboards to make sure we were eating well, Don would open his arms and give Marty, Kim and I big teddy bear hugs. Whatever stress I had would be gone. One smile and one hug from "Cool Cat" and all would be well in my world.  He was hands down the kindest person I've ever known and always hugged me like I was one of his own children.  Cool Cat will certainly be missed.

This is tragic and sad.  

Don was a gentleman and an outstanding Bank colleague. Several of us learnt a lot from him. We worked together on IAIS matters, coverage of insurance issues in FSAPs, and several joint Board papers.

A generation is indeed crossing the rainbow bridge. I hope he crossed peacefully and without pain.

Dear Barry and Family,

Rita and I would like to add our sincerest condolences to you and your entire family on your tremendous loss.  Don was a mentor and supporter of many colleagues during his career and I was one of the beneficiaries of his kindness, advice and encouragement.  In many ways, whatever successes I have enjoyed in my career as a regulator at the Department of Insurance, OSFI and DICO and now as a consultant, I owed to him.  As someone else mentioned, Don's advice of "don't sweat the small stuff..." helped greatly in putting the work/life balance in perspective.  I know how much Don loved his family and that through them his legacy will live on forever.  While we cannot be with you, our thoughts and prayers are with you during this most difficult time.  May God bless you all.

So saddened to hear of Don's passing.  My sincere condolences to Barry and family.  Don and I were friends and colleagues for all of my nearly 20 years at the Department of Insurance.  I was also fortunate to be able to work with Don on several projects when he was with the World Bank. 
I remember when the Department of Insurance celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1976.  Don and I were asked by the Superintendent, Mr. Humphries, to go out to Calgary, which was the site of the 1975 Annual Conference of the  Association of Provincial Superintendents of Insurance.  Our assignment was to find out all the tricks of the trade so that the federal Department of Insurance could host the Conference in Ottawa in 1976.  Lots of laughs as we were two young guys running around the Palliser Hotel hoping to find out all the secrets of conference hosting.  And then, prior to the actual Ottawa conference in 1976, we had the opportunity to meet John Turner, the Minister of Finance, on a couple of occasions because he was to be the guest of honour and keynote speaker.  What fun!   RIP Don.

Another man of honour and character gone.  I worked with Don at OSFI and he recommended me for my first consulting gig overseas, which turned into a second career (and, in a very real sense, a second life).  He was both my mentor and my friend, and a big part of the success of my consulting career was my desire to always be worthy of his confidence in me.  He passed on his philosophy to me--"don't sweat the small stuff, and remember that everything is small stuff"--and it is one which has guided me and protected me from stress, ulcers and nervous breakdowns ever since .  Although we didn't see a lot of each other after he went to the World Bank, our paths crossed overseas from time to time and I always enjoyed our times together on those occasions.  Don was the perfect blend of the sacred and the profane--a true caring Christian at heart, but  not afraid to express himself in more secular and colourful terms when warranted.  I last saw him at another sad occasion--the recent funeral for Bob Hammond--but take comfort that out of that sad occasion came the chance to reconnect with him before he passed on.   Bon Voyage, my friend, and my sincere condolences to those he left behind.
