Mr. Trevor Warner Walters

Trevor passed away peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his wife of 60 years, Joyce (nee Smith) and family in his own home. Trevor is predeceased by his parents Madeleine and Walter Walters, his infant grandson Matthew Trevor, and his best pal Annabelle. Affectionately known as Grampsy to his grandchildren Becky, Ben, Stephen, Gordon, Noah, Dan, and Melanie, he loved following their exploits and activities. His deeply loved family includes his children Mike (Joany), Jill (Dave), Barry (Diane), Jeff (Sue) and Nancy (Mike).

Trevor was born in Calgary in 1929 and lived in Calgary for his entire life. He was an extremely proud Calgarian and avid hockey player, drafted by the Montreal Maroons until injury sidelined that career. Trevor was thrilled when Calgary got their first professional hockey team in 1980 and he soon wrangled tickets. He has been an enthusiastic Calgary Flames season ticket holder for over thirty years! Dad attended Rideau Park School, and Western Canada High. He took great pride in his ability to ‘just figure stuff out’. It is this talent that served him well in his career as a General Contractor and family and neighbourhood handyman. As we drive through Calgary, we can see his significant influence on many of the city’s landmark buildings. He had his hand in many key projects in early Calgary, as it grew into the city it is today. His big heart, generosity of time and talent, and adeptness at building and fixing anything was felt most deeply at the Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter and the YMCA Camp Chief Hector. He left his mark on the many structures and projects at those places, but it was his generosity with family and friends’ projects that was boundless. He loved his family, and was deeply committed to them. He made friends everywhere he went, from trailering at Priest Lake Campground in Idaho to his classes at the Confederation Park Seniors Centre. His passion for hockey was equaled only by his passion for art. He was humble about sharing his talent, but has left behind an impressive and meaningful art collection. A day of fishing on the Highwood River or his Sunday afternoon Pool Club brought great joy to him. We would like to extend a special thanks to the amazing support of our dear friends Dr. Simon Arthur, Dr. Michelle Deyholos, and Jennifer Judd, as well as to the AHS Palliative Home Care team that supported us through this time.
