Mrs. Tina vanLeeuwen van der Laan

February 20, 1930 – March 9, 2010

Tina died peacefully at the Foothills Hospital, after a short battle with cancer. Tina is survived by her six children: Hans (Wendy), Rob (Sharon), Rudy (Val), Marianne (Terry), Sylvia and Patricia; fifteen grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her three younger siblings: Janny (predeceased by Gerry) in Vancouver, and Piet (Annelies) and Elly (Kess) in Holland, brother-in-law Joe (Emily), as well as a number of nephews and nieces in Holland, B.C., and Saskatchewan. Tina was predeceased by her husband Chris in 2001. Tina was born in The Hague, married Chris on May 2, 1951, and immigrated to Canada in May, 1953. They resided in Biggar, Saskatchewan, before relocating to the Calgary community of Bridgeland in August, 1964. Tina was a stay at home mom, and her greatest pride were her children and their activities and accomplishments. She was also a loving grandmother and great grandmother. While Calgary was her home, Tina enjoyed making trips back to Holland to visit relatives. Her loves were her offspring and the waltz music of Johann Strauss. One of her weekly joys for the past 35 years was bowling on Tuesday mornings with the ladies from the Renfrew United Church bowling league. Tina was the anchor in her family, and a big influence on her children. Her sense of humor and quick wit will be missed by all. The family thanks the medical staff at the Peter Lougheed and Foothills Hospitals, as well as the Tom Baker Cancer Center, for their compassionate care during Mom’s illness. A Celebration of Tina’s life will be held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street NW, Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Friday, March 12, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Center, 1331 – 29th Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2.
