With profound sadness we announce that Shirley McWilliam passed away peacefully in Foothills Hospital on Sunday, September 22. She will be forever loved and remembered by her daughters Brenda (John) Horning and Robin (Ed) Rohl; granddaughters Tyra Bates (Greg) and Melanie Law (Tom Nopper); Grandson Rick Rohl (Juli); as well as dear friends Karyn, Steve, and Lakyn Poole; numerous nephews, nieces and extended family members. “Great Gram” will be sadly missed by her Great Grandchildren: Josh and Madi Horning, Jeorjia, Emille’, Ysabella Law and Sophia Nopper, Kellan and Ella Bates, Hannah and Cooper Rohl, Christina, and Amy Nopper. Among the family, and in recognition of her role as Matriarch, her title was “The Maker” as named by 3 year old Madi some 20 years ago and still displayed today on Great Grams license plate. Shirley was predeceased by her son Dallas Artie Butz (2019), husbands Joe McWilliam (2000) and Alvin Butz (1971), and is survived by her sisters Lois and Patty. A Celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion #264 at 1918 Kensington Rd NW, Calgary, on Sunday, October 6 at 3:00 pm with Rev. Jope Langejans presiding. Friends and family attending are encouraged to share a favorite story or memory. Those unable to attend may also forward remembrances and stories to the Foster’s website, www.fostersgardenchapel.ca. Shirley was in good health until early this year, and during the past few months while in hospital she was very grateful for the care and attention of Nurses and staff at the Foothills Hospital. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tom Baker Cancer Center or the Alzheimer Society Calgary.
