Ping Lun was born on December 20, 1928 in Macau, China. He had a lifelong passion for learning and never held back from sharing his knowledge and passion with his loved ones and the world. As a little boy, he would run and chase after the flying mail carriers in Macau, the first and only airplane at the time. As a young adult, his fascination with airplanes and pushing the envelope of what is possible for humanity landed him at the Far East Flying Training School where he graduated top of his class.
He pursued his dream job as an aerospace mechanic for Pan America at the Hong Kong Kai Tak Airport where he remained a valuable member of the team until at age 24, his passion for learning propelled him to attend Sun Yat-sen University. After his graduation, he used his knowledge and creative mind to build the first mechanical research factory in the university, with the goal of improving the quality of life for the people of China through technological advancement.
After retirement, he fell in love with Canada and resided in the beautiful city of Calgary, Alberta. He enjoyed volunteering in the Calgary Chinese Elderly Association and other charities where he met many likeminded people and lifelong friends. He never gave up his passions for mechanical engineering and would take every opportunity to explore new ideas. At the age of 70, he was granted a patent for diesel engine air/fuel ratio controllers for black smoke reductions from both US and China. His positive legacy continues to touch the lives and hearts of many.
A Visitation for Ping Lun will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel Funeral Home, 3220-4 Street NW. Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Monday, September 30, 2024 at 10:30 AM.
