Peggy Weaver

She is survived by daughters Catherine and Sheila, granddaughter Devon, grandsons Jamie, Nicholas and Luke, and sister Kathleen (Kay) Liversidge of Victoria, BC, as well as many family members worldwide. Peggy was predeceased by her husband Alan GT (Bill) Weaver in April 2005.

Firstborn to James and Dorothy Baird-Matthews, Peggy was born in Batu Gajah, Federated Malay States, where her British parents resided in the tin mining business. She was educated in Singapore, and boarding schools and Glouchester College of Domestic Science in England, then trained as a nurse in Torbay Hospital, Tavistock, Devon.

During WWII Peggy completed her Midwifery training in Plymouth Hospital, Reading and obtained her SRN and CBM. She helped bring many babies into the world in her position as District Nurse Midwife, though never did learn to ride a bicycle with confidence.

She left England to join family in Texas, USA, where she met and married Bill in June 1953. They moved to Canada with Shell Oil, where the family grew to include their two daughters. Peggy enjoyed the travel opportunities including several years living in The Hague.

Peggy was a busy homemaker and devoted many volunteer hours over the years. She was described by someone as the kindest person they had ever known.

Peggy and Bill retired to Victoria, BC where their beautiful homes became Weaver Motel for their family, as well as numerous friends visiting from overseas. She loved living on Vancouver Island and it allowed her to pursue her gardening passion, making blackberry jam, hiking, and socializing with a dear group of friends. Her grandchildren will always remember the bottomless jar of wine gums stocked for their visits.

Memorial gatherings will be held in Calgary; service and burial arrangements at St. Lukes’ Anglican Church, Victoria BC, to be announced.
