Mary Ann Callanan, 83, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2012, at the Bow View Manor. Mary Ann was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. She moved at an early age to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where she taught in the Halifax Catholic School System for twenty-three years. In 1969, Mary Ann headed west to Calgary to take up a position as Guidance Consultant with the Calgary Separate School Board, with whom she remained until her retirement as an elementary teacher from Corpus Christi School in 1993. Mary Ann is survived by her brother, Frank (Gus), of Boston, as well as her nephews Frank, Kevin, Paul, and her niece, Mary Ann, and their families. She is also survived by her close friends, Tina and AI Roach, who managed Mary Ann's affairs throughout her long struggle with Alzheimer Disease. Mary Ann was predeceased by her parents, Francis and Mary, her brother, Joe, her sister, Sister Gertrude, S.C.H., and her best friend, Adele Roach. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 2424 - 24th Avenue, N.W., Calgary on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. The Celebrant will be Reverend Luis Moreno Nava, Pastor. The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Dr. David Todd and the staff of the Crowfoot Wing of Bow View Manor for their warm, efficient, generous care and committed dedication to Mary Ann and her fellow residents. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Pius X Parish Expansion Fund. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostergardenchapel.ca.
