Marlee Deanne Hoffman Chalmers, of Calgary, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2021 at Agape Hospice after an extended illness. She was 78. Marlee is survived by her husband William Chalmers; her sons Greg Chalmers and Kelly Chalmers; her daughters-in-law Katina Chalmers and Melody Chalmers; her grandchildren, Jake Chalmers, Reagan Chalmers and Beighley Chalmers; her sister Janice Lee (of Victoria) and several cousins and nieces.
Marlee was born June 23, 1943 in Maple Creek, Saskatchewan to the late Elmer and Margaret Hoffman. She was an avid curler though out her teenage years and loved meeting new people. She started a written correspondence with a young girl in England when she was in grade school and that correspondence continued through the years.
While working in Victoria at Hudson’s Bay Company as an elevator operator, she met a stockman named William Chalmers. On September 7, 1962 they were married and began their lives together. Marlee was a phenomenal homemaker and mother to two boys. She could be found often baking in the kitchen or putting a puzzle together at the dining room table. She enjoyed reading and knitting once the household settled down. She was an accomplished pianist and played often. On Friday mornings you could find her having coffee with her friends discussing husbands, grandkids and life in general.
Marlee and William loved to travel and visited several foreign places. She especially loved traveling to Venice and London where she would visit with her penpal from her childhood. You could find them cruising to places such as Alaska, Greece and the Panama Canal. She enjoyed sharing photos and souvenirs with her friends and family when she returned.
Marlee loved her friends and family dearly and was a wonderful mother and grandmother. Her warm smile and very giving spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family would like to recognize all of the doctors and staff who treated and tended to Marlee at Tom Baker Cancer Center and Agape Hospice in Calgary. Your compassion and care was exemplary and did not go unnoticed.
