Manuel Alfonso Rodriguez, also lovingly known as Pochito by his children and family, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Care Centre of Calgary, Alberta, Canada on January 7, 2022 at the age of 94 years surrounded by family.
Alfonso and his wife, Leonor, immigrated to Canada in 1988 where they reunited with four of their children and their families.
He was born in Bogota, Colombia on November 23, 1928 to Juan Ascencio Rodriguez and Romelia Pedraza. He graduated from San Bartolome de las Mercedes High School of Bogota, and later obtained a degree in Business Administration from the Jorge Tadeo Lozano University of Bogota. During his working life he moved up the ranks of corporate Colombia, achieving senior management positions as a Purse and Credit Manager for several private companies. Alfonso was known for his love of soccer and horses.
He was married to Ana Leonor Alfonso on January 6, 1952, who survives him.
Alfonso is survived by sons Alvaro (Marlen), Alberto and partner, German (Christine); daughter Luz Stella (Dan); as well as nine (9) grandchildren, Jennifer, Jhoanna, Mauricio, Andrea, Mateo, Misha, Chrissie, Alaine and Stefan; and nine (9) great-grandchildren, Daniela, Juan Camilo, Lucas, Gabriel, Sofia, Sierra, Brodie, Layla and Lowen. Alfonso is survived by his sisters Leonor Hernandez, Berta Rodriguez, Romelia Pinzon, and Aurora Reyes.
Alfonso was predeceased by parents Juan and Romelia, sister Stella and brother Ricardo.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place.
