December 19, 1969 – December 20, 2018
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that at the tender age of 49, we announce the death of our beautiful mother, daughter and sister, Laurie Yeast after her 22 month courageous and difficult battle with Esophageal Cancer.
She is survived by her loving children Blake (Taylor) Truax, Payton and Brody McGonigal, her mom Fran and her brother Robert; Aunts and Uncles, Clarice Weninger, Peter and Viola Weninger, Idella Roshinsky, Laurie Simonin, Stan and Bev Simonin, as well as numerous cousins and all her wonderful friends. Laurie was grateful to each and every one of you. Laurie was predeceased by her father Larry Yeast in 2009; grandparents Martin and Frieda Yeast, Frank and Francien Simonin; her uncle Johnny Weninger, cousin Daryl Weninger; uncle Edward Roshinsky and uncle John Simonin
Laurie was born to Larry and Fran Yeast on December 19, 1969, in Kelowna, BC. She moved to Calgary with her family in 1977 where she grew up. She attended St. Matthew Elementary Junior High school and graduated from Bishop Grandin High School in 1989. Laurie then worked in the funeral profession for 12 years until she gave birth to her first child Blake. She became a single mom to Blake and did everything she could for him. She then became self-employed in the new home construction industry, following in her Dad’s footstep. She later had Payton, then Brody and was again a single mom taking care of three children. She always did everything she could, within her ability, to provide for her kids. They were her whole life. Laurie enjoyed times of travel throughout the USA. Her favorite places to visit were Kansas City, Nashville, Colorado, and Florida. She was a NASCAR lover and watched almost every Sunday as well as attended many races in person, which was always a thrill for her. Laurie’s most favorite place of all to travel was Mazatlán, Mexico. Laurie would visit Mazatlán once or twice a year to spend time with her Mom and many friends. It was her dream to retire there. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 1009 Eastlake Boulevard S.E., Airdrie, Alberta. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made directly to Dulcina Hospice, 110 Evanspark Manor N.W., Calgary, AB T3P 0N4.
